I’m a Novelist Before Anything Else
I’ve written/published 7 novels.
I wrote a new novel for my editor at Harlequin two years ago.
When my editor read it, she said it was a lovely story. Then, she said, “Your writing is a joy to read.”
But it was beyond category romance requirements (secondary characters and a major subplot) and didn’t fit any of Harlequin’s 12 imprints.
I just couldn’t reconcile revising that novel then. So, I returned to Medium — twice — and thought that type of writing would be satisfying enough.
It wasn’t. And the longer I try to make it fit that empty space in me labeled Novelist, the less it provides the nourishment that writing novels provides.
My New Writing Plan
I have to get back to the writing I love.
Writing novels fills me with enthusiasm, motivation, inspiration, and PRIDE.
What should I write? NOVELS, of course. Will they be easy to sell, followed by a request to write more?
Yes. Because my editor at Harlequin says my writing is “a joy to read.” That’s the most important thing, next to writing a book that will fit one of those 12 imprints.
Second Part of my Writing Plan
I’ve had a Substack newsletter for more than a year, but I’ve neglected it to write stories for Medium.
I’ll write one newsletter a week on SS. I’m hoping some of my 240 followers on Medium will subscribe to my SS newsletter.
Linda’s Heart.
I will write profiles of people, places, things, that I find fascinating, disturbing, humorous, frightening, or silly. A lot of those things will come from our 68 nonfiction books that were written/published between 1996 and 2012.
I’ll provide updates on my novels and release dates to my subscribers FIRST.
I’ll also write about our lives and how things are progressing toward a new life for both of us. Pastor and Pastor’s Wife. I’ll publish one newsletter a week, on Monday.
My Followers
You can find me easily on Substack. Here’s the link.

I hope to see my followers/new followers from Medium subscribing (free) to Linda’s Heart on Substack.
Home Again
I’m already feeling like I’m home again, revising the book I finished two years ago.
It’s been long enough for me to be okay with the revisions, which will hopefully secure my position as a Harlequin writer. My pseudonym for Harlequin may be resurrected. Madeline George
Hugs and Happiness to Everyone!
Linda
I am so pleased you have come to this conclusion. Every book I have read in the last two months says write your passion you don’t make enough writing for it not to be a passion.
I will look forward to Mondays now.
