Every year, West Texas has the same rollercoaster up—down—up—down pattern.
13 degrees last week.
Two days later…68 degrees.
Three days later…21 degrees.
Today, 65 degrees, sunny, with no breeze at all.
Wednesday, it’s going to get frigid and stay that way through the weekend.
And beyond. Those frigid fronts have scouts that move through before the cold settles.
Wind. Big cold wind. 35-45 mph sustained, with gusts past 50-60mph.
Typical February in West Texas.
February! Do you remember last February?
We ran to NM last February, just before the Polar Vortex froze the bejeebers out of Texas. Miles into the Gulf of Mexico!
Seminole froze under a thick layer of ice. But utilities stayed on most of the month. That’s because Seminole isn’t on the Texas power grid that hadn’t been winterized.
Still hasn’t been winterized.
Not sure it will ever be winterized.
Near Cloudcroft, it was cold—teens, singles, and twenties. Even a few below-zeros. Snow and ice as usual.
But our Ram and Alex’s Subaru had no difficulty getting to the highway, where snowplows had cleared as much snow as possible. Just as they always do.
Christy, almost a mile lower in Alamo, had snow and a bit of ice, but it melted and ran off pretty fast. Alamo is 1000 feet higher than Seminole.
Pine Ridge never lost power or water, the way Texas did, even though our little piece of paradise sits a mile higher than Seminole.
Hard to shine when you have the big shivers
What have we learned?
Anthony J. D’Angelo said it best.
“Wherever you go, no matter the weather, always bring your own sunshine.”
Shine!!!
March will be here in 28 days!
Hugs and Happiness,
Linda
